About Us...
About Us...

A dandyish den of opulence. The kind of place where you can hang out the day or night, access the wifi with a big slice of cake and a frothy coffee, munch on breakfasts and burgers, sandwiches and salads and/or sample the extensive and exquisite beer menu, sophisticated selection of spirits and wines to make you go woozy.

Nightimes at Trof are filled with music everyday of the week with djs, live bands, open mic, and a weekly quiz.

And importantly, you can smoke away on the roof terrace anytime.

15th September ::: TROUBLE BOOKS
15th September ::: TROUBLE BOOKS

It is with our greatest pleasure that Trouble Books will be playing on the 17th September at Trof Northern Quarter in Manchester. Trouble Books cultivate garden of music lush with odd sounds, loops and drones to walk through and explore. Handmade experimental pop songs blossom from under synthesizer swells and guitar clouds, later to be buried in noise or drift into ambient atmospherics.

“a perfect autumnal record, wrapping itself around you like a warm blanket…. Nigh on perfect.” – Drowned in Sound

“These drowsy, hazy songs suggest an alternate reality Brian Wilson making crackly, cheapo synth ditties in his bedroom.”– The Guardian

22nd September ::: DUCKTAILS
22nd September ::: DUCKTAILS

We're pleased as punch to be playing host to the truly marvellous Ducktails on 22nd September. a New Jerseyian whose pop is drenched in a warm drone. There is a pretty amazingly realized aesthetic running through this stuff, with all its plastic nostalgias -- like Ninja Turtles pizza, fake palm trees, sugary cereal -- and the lo-fi tape fuzz that also permeates his other projects, Predator Vision, Real Estate, and Dreams In Mirror Field. It's home recording with one of the comfiest feels you'll find, reminiscent of Ariel Pink but with an exploratory nudge.

Matt will be joined by the equally awesome Spectrals as his backing band.

4th October ::: GRASS WIDOW & TRASH KIT
4th October ::: GRASS WIDOW & TRASH KIT

GRASS WIDOW...San Fran "up and comers" Grass Widow have made quite the name for themselves in the past year. With only two critically acclaimed 12-inches, a CD-R, and a split cassette with Rank/Xerox, the band have built up some mad hype, and it appears to be warranted, because news is out that prestigious Portland label Kill Rock Stars has taken a concerted interest in the well-being of this fem-powered three-piece.

TRASH KIT are a gang of facepainted flag-bearers who have a wild feel for melody and a heartfelt kick inside each song.

7th October ::: THE BEETS & BROWN BROGUES
7th October ::: THE BEETS & BROWN BROGUES

Since the '60s Frat Rock and '60s proto-punk of their debut 'Spit In The Face Of People Who Don't Want To Be Cool',the band have gone through some line-up changes. Drummer Jacob Warstler has departed and Melissa Scaduto has taken over. Look for the Beets new album, Stay Home, on the fine Captured Tracks label this autumn, preceded by new single "Locomotion."

Brown Brogues are the latest signing on our own Deaf Institute's label Suffering Jukebox... imagine if Thee Oh Sees' John Dwyer had two english sons. The band everyone in Manchester seems to be talking about

14th November ::: CATH & PHIL TYLER
14th November ::: CATH & PHIL TYLER

2008 saw Anglo-American duo Cath & Phil Tyler release their debut album ‘Dumb Supper’ to great critical acclaim across all divides of the modern folk landscape – as Plan B rightly noted, “Dumb Supper is one of those rare modern folk albums that will find a home both in the longstanding ‘traditional’ music community and among those attracted to the form’s more experimental and lo-fi possibilities”.

And so it was that they were feted by a bewilderingly multilateral mix of critics from The Wire to Mike Harding to Brainwashed to Bob Harris (for whom they recorded a session too).
